According to local authorities, a 14-year-old broke into a police station in the Bosnian town of Bosanska Krupa late on Thursday, October 2, killing stabbing one officer and seriously wounding another.
The sudden violence has left the little town, which is some 300 kilometres northwest of Sarajevo, in shock.
While police spokesperson Adnan Beganovic stated that the injured officer remains in the hospital with potentially fatal injuries, Bosniak-Croat federation interior minister Ramo Isak confirmed the attack and the officer’s death. The 2009-born attacker was swiftly captured, and the motives for the crime are being looked into.
Adnan Habibija, the regional police head, was shocked by the young person’s involvement and described it as “an alarm bell for our society.” “We are a peaceful and tolerant town,” said Mayor Armin Halitovic, echoing the town’s disbelief. Police have tightened security in the wake of the incident.
Growing worries about juvenile violence in Bosnia are highlighted by this episode, which comes after a similar attack last year in which a 13-year-old pupil used a pistol to hurt a teacher.
