A 17-year-old housewife identified as Mrs Nguemo Ikyowe has been arrested for k!lling her 3-year-old stepson, Vanen Ikyowe, in Ginde village in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.
The suspect was arrested by operatives of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on September 12, 2024, for a case of culpable homicide.
Briefing journalists on this, Benue NSCDC State Commandant, Mrs. Larai Bitrus, said the arrest followed a distress call from members of the public that one Nguemo had murdered a three-year-old boy and dumped his corpse in a river at Ginde Village in Guma Local Government Area.
“Our men stationed at Ginde Village swiftly moved to the scene and arrested the suspect, who later confessed to the crimes during interrogation,” she stated.
“The suspect led their officers, who conducted a search and discovered the lifeless body of the boy and deposited it at a mortuary in Ginde Village.
“The crime is against the state, and so, she will be handed over to the Nigerian Police Force for possible prosecution after their investigation.”
The suspect, who is the second wife of the victim’s father, claimed that she went to the bush with her stepson to fetch firewood when a spirit came upon her and she murdered the boy.
