A horrific accident along the Abakaliki-Enugu expressway has left five people dead and seven others hospitalized, News360 Nigeria reports.
The tragic incident occurred near the G-Hostel area when a fully-loaded commercial bus traveling from Enugu encountered an obstacle on the road, causing the vehicle to crash and burst into flames.
The Police Public Relations Officer for Ebonyi State, Mr. Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the incident, attributing the accident to an obstacle placed due to ongoing repairs on the Abakaliki-Enugu highway. While the injured are receiving treatment at Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital in Abakaliki, the remains of those who lost their lives have been taken to the mortuary.
This accident has raised concerns about the need for improved safety measures around road repair sites to prevent such tragic occurrences.
