Nigerian Army troops eliminate 8 terrorists, rescue 40 hostages

In a series of well-coordinated operations spanning several states, the Nigerian Army has effectively neutralised eight terrorists and freed forty kidnapped victims in an unwavering endeavour to rid the country of terrorism.

In a statement released on Monday, September 30, 2024, the Army claimed that these recent successes had tightened the noose around the necks of terrorists who have no intention of repenting and those who assist them.

A noteworthy development was the military’ capture of a well-known arms courier who was discovered to have a sizable cache of ammunition, dealing a serious blow to the illegal elements’ efforts to proliferate weapons.

Nigerian Army soldiers stationed in Nasarawa State carried out a strategic stop-and-search operation along the Lafia-Keffi Road on September 28, 2024, in response to accurate intelligence. As a result, 303 live rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition that had been hidden in a bag were found, and a guns courier was taken into custody.

One terrorist was killed when troops in the Birnin Gwari Local Government Area carried out precision attacks in the forests close to the villages of Danmari and Saulawa. The suspect and the vehicle were taken into custody right away, and more investigations are underway to capture him.

Two more terrorists were eliminated in Ankwa hamlet in the Kachia Local Government Area, and a motorbike, 11 rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition, and a handgun manufactured locally were also found.

During a firefight with terrorists in Borno State’s Faayijiwa Fandanari hamlet in the Magumeri Local Government Area, forces found two AK-47 weapons, 51 NATO and 61 special 7.62mm rounds, hard narcotics, and a variety of goods. The terrorists were overwhelmed by the troops’ superior firepower and left the guns and ammunition behind.

Three terrorists were neutralised as a consequence of additional operations in the Gwoza Local Government Area, while alert forces acting on reliable information followed and stopped a truck that was allegedly carrying supplies to terrorists at Gubio. N2,400 was found after three cars carrying food supplies meant for terrorist camps were apprehended.

Another success was achieved by the efforts in Kukawa Local Government Area when troops, acting upon intelligence, stopped terrorists who were trying to take hostages from Cijin village. When the terrorists spotted the soldiers, they ran away, leaving 38 hostages—six men, eight women, and twenty-four children—who the soldiers were able to safely free.

In the meantime, Yobe State troops successfully staged an ambush in Sasawa village within Damaturu Local Government Area in response to allegations of terrorists extorting villagers. One terrorist was eliminated by the forces, and they also found an AK-47 gun and a motorbike.

The troops have received praise from the Chief of Army Staff for their valour and unwavering pursuit of peace. Additionally, he conveyed his gratitude to the populace, whose consistent supply of reliable information has been crucial to these achievements. T

The statement went on, “The Nigerian Army is unwavering in its resolve to eradicate terrorism and protect the lives of every Nigerian.”
