Cynthia Masocha, a new mother, gave birth to a boy at Chipinge District Hospital in Zimbabwe in a startling incident. However, the next morning, she discovered that her son had been exchanged with a girl.
Authorities from the hospital and the police are currently looking into the occurrence, which shocked the people of Chipinge.
With the help of midwife Blessing Mutimbu, Masocha gave birth to a boy on September 21, 2024, according to Manica Post. After the baby was delivered, Masocha confirmed that it was male by raising the child under Mutimbu’s care. After giving birth, Masocha nursed her kid and went to bed. But when she checked the nappies the next morning, she was shocked to see that the baby was a girl.
“I couldn’t believe my eyes when I checked the nappies. I was sure I had a son, and the hospital records confirmed it,” Masocha reportedly told authorities, expressing disbelief at the unexpected swap.
Masocha was the only one among the three ladies who had given birth that day at the hospital to deliver a boy. The mystery surrounding the switch grows even more when it is confirmed by the hospital’s birth records that she had actually given birth to a boy.
In response, DNA testing is being done by police and medical officials to ascertain the baby’s true identity and the cause of the confusion. Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, the acting provincial police spokesperson for Manicaland, acknowledged the occurrence and underlined that enquiries were still ongoing.
Although no suspects have been identified as of yet, investigators are trying to figure out how the changeover happened. To establish paternity and elucidate the whole story behind the occurrence, DNA testing will be done on all concerned individuals.
