According to Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Advisor (NSA), the Federal Government was the original owner of a substantial portion of the illegal weapons that are currently in use in Nigeria.
During the National Centre for the Control of Small armaments and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) armaments destruction exercise at Muhammadu Buhari Cantonment in Abuja on Thursday, Ribadu made this statement.
He clarified that corrupt elements inside the security agencies were the reason the weapons ended up in the hands of non-state entities.
Security professionals who help terrorists, bandits, and other non-state actors obtain firearms were denounced by the NSA.
He promised that every effort would be made by the administration to guarantee the security of the nation.
