Following CAF’s request for documentation on the cancellation of the AFCON qualifying Group D match against the Nigerian Super Eagles, the Libyan Football Federation is in a panic.
After their plane was diverted to Labraq Airport and they were held captive there for more than eighteen hours without food or water, the Super Eagles team declined to play the game.
Following their trauma at the airport, the Super Eagles later boycotted the game and went home.
In a special message to Libya Al-Ahrar, the Secretary-General and person in charge of overseeing the organisation, Nasser Al-Suwaie, announced that CAF has given the Libyan and Nigerian organisations until this month’s 20th to submit the paperwork pertaining to this file.
Al-Suwaie disclosed that the Libyan FA has designated a specialised attorney to testify, and that although there might be collaboration among some CAF members, the Libyan Federation maintains a firm stance.
The Libyan Federation did not alter the plane’s landing path at Al-Abraq Airport, according to Al-Suwaie, who also stated that the Libyan state made the choice to shift the plane’s landing location to Al-Abraq and that everyone must respect the Libyan state’s sovereignty.
After the unacceptable airport experience, the Super Eagles boycotted the AFCON qualification match and returned to the nation on Monday.
