Ex-Morocco and Marseille player, Abdelaziz Barrada dies at 35 after suffering ‘sudden heart attack’.

Abdelaziz Barrada, a former midfielder for Marseille, passed away at the age of 35 following a heart attack.


After playing for Getafe, Marseille, and Al-Nasyr, the former Morocco international retired from football in 2021. It has been alleged that he had a sudden heart attack while residing in France.

 

Marseille used social media to pay their respects. “Rest in peace, Abdelaziz,” they wrote on social media. Olympique de Marseille is devastated to hear of the death of Abdelaziz Barrada, a former player and Moroccan international.

The club added: “Having arrived in the summer of 2014, the attacking midfielder wore OM’s colors for two seasons. Olympique de Marseille extends its sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.”


His former club Getafe also expressed their shock and sorrow: “The Getafe CF family is shocked by the death of Getafe player Abdel Barrada. The footballer played 66 matches and scored 4 goals for Getafe in the 2011/12 and 2012/13 seasons. Our thoughts and support at this time go to Abdel’s family and friends. RIP.”


Barrada captained the Morocco squad at the 2012 London Olympic Games and represented his country in 26 matches, netting four goals between 2012 and 2015.
