More than 80 Schools To Celebrate Wole Soyinka At 90

Initiative for Information, Arts, and Culture Development said on Monday that it would bring together more than eighty schools to commemorate Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka’s 90th birthday.

According to The PUNCH, Soyinka would turn 90 on July 13, 2024. She was born in 1934.

This was revealed by IACD President Kolade Mosuro at a press conference on the events planned to honour the world icon in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

The head of IACD announced that a wide range of events, including readings, stage plays, and performances, are scheduled for the exhibition.

The kids would have a deeper understanding of Soyinka, the patriot, fair play advocate, dramatist, artist, guitarist, music enthusiast, and Nobel laureate, he stated.

“The Lion and the Jewel, directed by Jumoke Sobo, will be presented by The Government College, Ibadan on July 19, 2024 at Bishop Philip Academy, Aperin, Ibadan; Childe’s International, directed by Dele Morakinyo, will take place at Bishop Philip Academy, Ibadan on July 26, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. at the Wole Soyinka Theatre, University of Ibadan.

On July13,2024, Soyinka will turn 90 years old. We will celebrate by putting on a one-of-a-kind national exhibition that will showcase his entire life. It will run from July 2, 2024, to July 31, 2024.

The display will chart his illustrious life from conception to the present. His rich and amazing story will be told through a thematic display of images, artefacts, and music.

“The IACD premises, Magazine Road, Jericho, Ibadan, is the exhibition venue.” Numerous events have taken place and continue to take place worldwide, but what we are doing is unique. Eighty schools’ worth of students will congregate here to celebrate and view the display. Its purpose is to encourage and rekindle in the pupils Soyinka’s legacy of creativity and knowledge.

He predicted that the show will spark students’ interest in reading about culture again.
