John The Emeritus Archbishop of the Abuja Catholic Archdiocese, Cardinal Onaiyekan, asserts that remaining silent in the face of social injustice is a crime against the nation and the gospel of Christ.
He said this in Abuja during the launch of the Catholic Social Teaching (CST) project, which is run by the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN) and its affiliated agencies (CBCN)
The CST program’s trainers’ graduation ceremony was also observed, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Beyond evangelism, according to Onaiyekan, the Church needs to foster dialogue about justice and peace, which are all encompassed in its social teachings.
According to him, the Catholic Bishops of Nigeria have always pushed the government to meet its obligations and attend to the needs of the populace because of this belief.
He clarified that CST is essential to evangelism because it offers a moral compass for surviving, working, and thriving in society.
The Cardinal congratulated the graduates, exhorted them to use their knowledge to advance the faith, and asked them to see CST as a necessary component of service.
The Cardinal claims that the CST is designed to provide laypeople and priests the knowledge and voice to speak out against social injustices and to know their rights.
