According to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), a couple from Benin, Edo State, has been found guilty of trafficking in persons.
Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, the Coordinator of the Benin Zonal Command of NAPTIP, Mr. Ganiu Aganran, revealed that the couple, Adesuwa Otabor, 33, and Otabor Idahosa, 39, had been sentenced to five years in prison for conspiring to commit human trafficking.
He claims that the couple was found guilty on July 16 by the High Court, Criminal Division 2, Benin City, presided over by Hon. Justice Geraldine Imadegbelo, of exporting a victim to Dubai for prostitution.
He pointed out that the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015, Section 27 was violated by the offence.
Aganran explained the accomplishment as a component of NAPTIP’s plan to apprehend, prosecute, and punish well-known human traffickers.
