Following their defeat in recent elections, opposition leaders, according to Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, are utilising the #EndBadGovernance demonstrations as a stage for “political retaliation.”
The leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) made these assertions on Friday, August 2, when appearing on Channels Television.
Demands for improved governance and economic changes have been the focal points of the rallies, which Governor Sani accused opposition members of organising. In order to “change the government through the ballot,” he urged opposition politicians to hold off until the following general elections.
Sani attacked certain protest organisers for supposedly not taking the initiative and instead letting the kids take charge of the events. Thinking back to his days as an activist in Nigeria during the military dictatorship, he remembered organising demonstrations against military abuses and being arrested as a result.
The governor further disclosed that he had rejected the suggestion made by certain party members to organise counter-protests. He stressed how much he respected the right to protest, which he had used when there was a military government.
