Under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, former presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari are now present for the inaugural Council of State meeting.
The State House Council Chambers in the Presidential Villa in Abuja are the location of the meeting.
General Yakubu Gowon (rtd) and General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd), two former heads of state, are virtually present at the conference. Additionally present are the governors of the states of Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, and Abia.
All surviving former heads of state and presidents, the current chief justice of Nigeria, the president of the Senate, the speaker of the House of Representatives, all state governors, and the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) make up the Council of State, which is presided over by the president and vice president.
This group provides policy-making advice to the executive.
Prior to the current administration of President Buhari, the meeting took place on February 10, 2023, and covered topics such as gasoline scarcity, the new Naira policy, and the 2023 elections.
