A man is said to have jumped into a melting pot on a Lagos construction site, causing him to entirely melt.

A 25-year-old contract employee of a construction company is believed to have perished after plunging into the factory’s iron melting pot on Shagamu Road in Ikorodu.

The event was confirmed by SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the public relations officer for the Lagos State Police (PPRO), who also stated that on August 3 at approximately 6:00 p.m., the company’s safety officer—whose name was withheld—reported the incident to the Sagamu Road Police Division.

According to SP Hundeyin, the safety officer reported that, on the same date, at approximately 3:15 p.m., contract employees of the company’s AOD Section allegedly ran to the iron melting pot, which was off-limits to all employees while it was in operation.

“He jumped into it and all efforts made by his colleagues to stop him proved abortive. His body was completely melted. Detectives from the station visited the scene of the crime. The family of the deceased has since been contacted, while the investigation is ongoing,” Hundeyin said
