According to her relatives, Maria Branyas, a Spaniard of American descent who was thought to be the oldest person alive, passed away.
Maria Branyas has passed away, according to a tweet made by her family in Catalan on her account on X, which was once Twitter.
“She has gone the way she wanted: in her sleep, at peace, and without pain.”
She was 117 years old.
March 4, 1907, saw the birth of Ms. Branyas in San Francisco; nevertheless, her family later moved back to Spain when she was a small child.
She was residing in a nursing facility in the Catalan town of Olot at the time of her death.
She went by “Super Catalan Grandma” on X and her bio reads, “I am old, very old, but not an idiot.”
“The time is near,” she wrote in her farewell social media post, expressing her weakness. I don’t like tears, so don’t cry. More importantly, don’t suffer for me. Anywhere I go, I’ll be content.”
After French nun Lucile Randon passed away last year, Ms. Branyas became the oldest known person in the world, according to the Gerontology Research Group, which verifies information about those believed to be 110 years of age or older.
Ms. Randon, who passed away at the age of 118, was known to drink a glass of wine every day.
At 116 years old, Japanese citizen Tomiko Itooka is the second-oldest individual on the Gerontology Research Group’s list.
Jeanne Calment, a French citizen who lived for 122 years and 164 days before passing away in 1997, is the only person known to have lived over the age of 120.
