The one thing Cristiano Ronaldo wants to accomplish before he hangs up his football boots has been made public.
In a recent video posted on his YouTube channel, the Portuguese sensation Rio Ferdinand discussed his ambition to become the first player to reach 1000 goals in the history of the game.
‘The day I feel like I’m not producing anything, not giving anything, I’ll pack my things and walk away [from football]. But right now, I still feel like I’m far from that day.’
‘First, I want to reach 900. Then I want to reach 1000, but with one difference: there will be videos of all the 1000 goals I score so I can prove that I scored,’ added Ronaldo with a cheeky claim about the lack of video proof of Pele’s and Romario’s goals.
Ronaldo also spoke out about the criticism he received for not scoring any goals at the 2024 European Championship.
The striker added: ‘I scored 60 goals last season. But people say: “Ah, but you didn’t even manage to score five goals in the European Championship”.
‘So what? What’s the problem? I’ve already scored 130. I’m the greatest goalscorer in the history of football.
‘But I’m going to raise the bar even higher. Soon, I’ll have 900 goals. And after that, I’ll reach 1,000 goals. I want to reach that mark.
‘How old will I be then? Maybe 41, I don’t know,’ claimed the Portuguese amid the discussions on his retirement after he previously revealed his retirement plans.
