At Nketa High School in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, a tragic event occurred when a Form Four student committed herself as a result of her lover rejecting her pregnancy.
On Monday, July 22, friends, family, and people of the community attended her solemn funeral.
After learning she was pregnant, the student—who had been dating an Upper-six student at the same school—allegedly turned to her boyfriend for assistance. She experienced severe emotional distress as a result of her boyfriend’s inability to acknowledge that she was pregnant, which influenced her choice to take her own life.
The girl went to her boyfriend’s house on July 12, but her aunt subsequently discovered her and brought her back to their house. She is thought to have made another attempt to talk to her partner about the matter, but she was rejected again. This made her desperation even more acute.
In spite of her aunt’s best attempts to encourage her, the student took her own life.
Although the pregnancy was not mentioned in the initial police records, Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incidence.
The girl was seen entering her boyfriend’s home after leaving her house on the pretence of attending extra lessons, according to the authorities. Her aunt was worried about her disappearance when she found her hanging from a guava tree in their backyard. When emergency personnel came, they declared her dead at the scene.
