Abia State Polytechnic staff celebrate as Abia State Governor pays salary arrears accumulated by previous administrations.

On Friday, September 13, 2024, the staff of Abia State Polytechnic in Aba, could not contain their enthusiasm following the payment of their salary arrears.

Remember that the Abia State government announced plans in June of this year to pay back the N16.5 billion in wage arrears that the previous administration owed to the employees of the state-owned universities in installments.

Commissioner of Finance, Mr. Mike Akpara, revealed this information to reporters in Umuahia, while guaranteeing that the government would equitably settle wage arrears to certain state civil service employees in installments.

Akpara clarified that N16.5 billion in arrears were owing to employees of state-owned educational institutions by the current administration. He continued by saying that the administration has made the decision to pay down the debts while making sure that development in other areas of the economy is not impeded.

The first group of employees collected their salary arrears on Friday, and they were spotted having fun.

The personnel is seen praising God while on their knees in an online video. Their state governor is also observed to be in their prayers.
