On Friday night, July 12, when he and other gang members allegedly attacked a student dorm at the University of Cross River State, Unicross, Okuku campus, a suspected armed robber going by the alias Bob Jay fell into an open well and died.
Around midnight, the thieves allegedly attacked the students in their dorm, taking money, phones, and laptops with them.
One of the suspects drowned after falling into an open well while attempting to flee with their loot following the crime.
The pupils didn’t notice the man inside, de@d, until they went to get water in the morning.
Locals responded to their alarm by retrieving him from the well.
He was reportedly recognised by students as one of the robbers, and people who knew him indicated that he was Bob Jay from the nearby community of Mbube.
