The governor-elect of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has received congratulations from President Bola Tinubu, who also advised him to view his victory as a call to service rather than to boast.
Additionally, President Tinubu stated that the win demonstrated the public’s backing for the ruling party’s progressive principles, economic reengineering plan, and dedication to enhancing the quality of life for Nigerians.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, announced Senator Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress, or APC, as the victor on Sunday after she outlasted other candidates.
President Tinubu praised the APC national leaders, Edo State leaders, and party governors for their tireless efforts in securing victory in a statement released by his Special Advisor on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
He advised Senator Okpebholo to view his win as a difficult call to service rather than to take pride in it.
In order to secure Edo State’s development, Tinubu urged him to show generosity by interacting with his political opponents and bringing the people of Edo State together.
Praises other contenders
In addition, President Tinubu commended the other contenders for their roles in furthering Nigeria’s democratic progress, stating that contests that are peaceful, like the one that took place on Saturday, help to present Nigeria as a stable democracy.
He advised everyone who felt wronged by the results of the election to pursue legal action.
The president also praised the people of Edo State for their peaceful and orderly conduct throughout the election, highlighting how Nigeria’s democracy has matured over the course of 25 years.
“I commend the INEC and our security agencies for working round the clock to conduct a successful, peaceful and largely hitch-free exercise.
“INEC has once again demonstrated that it is committed to organising a free and fair election in our country,” President Tinubu says.
