Four children lost their lives when another boat carrying 46 people sank in Mashayar Garba Rogo, Bukkuyum town, Bukkuyum Local Government Area, Zamfara state.Nearly a week had passed since a boat accident in the state’s Gummi Local Government Area that left over thirty people dead when the most recent occurrence happened on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at around 10:30 a.m.
Malam Aliyu Umar Bukkuyum, a local, claims that two of the children’s remains have been found, while the other two are still unaccounted for.
General Hospital Bukkuyum is now treating twelve unconscious patients.
About 50 people, mostly children and a few adults, were on the boat when it crossed the Zamfara River to get to its farms, according to Buhari Usman, commonly known as Messi, one of the survivors.
He clarified that despite the boat operators’ best efforts to stabilise it, the boat started acting strangely halfway through the trip and eventually overturned.
He mentioned that the 12 rescued victims are being treated at the hospital by the government, and he pledged that steps would be done to stop such incidents from happening in the future.
