It has been alleged that last year at Heathrow Airport in the United Kingdom, immigration officials harassed and briefly detained Obi.
Due to the ramifications of the most recent general election, Omokri has been engaged in a protracted conflict with Obi and particularly his followers, known as Obidients.
The former assistant to former President Goodluck Jonathan has promised not to change his ways and has never missed an opportunity to make fun of Obi.
In his most recent tirade, Omokri made fun of the former governor of Anambra State for something that happened at Heathrow Airport in the UK not long after the 2023 election.
Remember Immigration officials at Heathrow reportedly harassed and detained Obi before questioning him about a duplicate offence, implying that someone may have been using his identity in London.
On Good Friday, April 7, 2023, when Obi landed at the airport in London from Nigeria, he was allegedly harassed by immigration officers.
As he waited for the required airport procedures, the officials gave him a detention note and told him to step aside.
“He was questioned for a long time and it was very strange for a man who lived for over a decade in that country,” a spokesman for the Labour Party’s Campaign Council, Diran Onifade had said at the time.
Omokri criticises Obi over the incident at Heathrow Airport
The former presidential adviser recapped the incident and questioned people who said he was wanted by Nigerian police in a post on X published on Friday, October 4, 2024.
Omokri, a UK-based journalist, visited Nigeria this past week, where he met with a few high-ranking government officials and observed President Bola Tinubu’s Independence Day.
He took advantage of the chance to respond to rumours that have been circulating since he resigned as president in 2015, claiming that he is wanted in Nigeria for certain crimes.
He mentioned that this was his second visit to Nigeria since Tinubu took office and that he had been there twice in the eight years while previous President Muhammadu Buhari was in power.
Omokri added that he’s been going in and out of the UK without being detained at Heathrow or any other airport because his hands are clean, unlike some Nigerian politicians.
”I came to Nigeria twice under General Buhari. I have now come to Nigeria twice under President Tinubu. Hopefully, this will put to rest the fallacious claims by some people, particularly those of a failed movement with a failing leader, that I cannot visit Nigeria.
”I go in and out of the United Kingdom and have never been detained at London Heathrow Airport or any other airport because my hands are clean.
”Can all politicians in Nigeria, especially a particular one who loves to spout fake statistics, say the same? There is no country on Earth that I cannot visit when I want to,’‘ his post partly read.
