In Yauri town, Kebbi State, fishermen killed a hippopotamus and gave the locals some of its meat.
AIT News reports that the animal was slaughtered on Monday, October 7, per the directive of the State Governor and carried out by Zayyanu Abdullahi, the Emir of Yauri, following the death of one of the emir’s employees.
After a protracted hunt, forty fisherman used bows and arrows to bring down the hippopotamus.
A number of Facebook videos capture the moment the animal was killed and then transported in a dugout canoe to the Palace of the District Head of Gungu, Kasimu Aliyu, where it was butchered and its pieces distributed to the populace as meat.
