The command effectively clamped down on a kidnapping gang and arrested the chief suspect, according to a police statement signed by ASP Ahmad Rufai, the command spokesman.
According to Rufai, the police were notified of an alleged kidnapping case involving the kidnapping of a two-year-old child by the Criminal Investigation Department’s anti-kidnapping teams. He said that the police investigators had apprehended the culprit, who had already gotten in touch with the victims’ parents and wanted a N2 million ransom, through a concerted intelligence-led operation. He claimed that the victims’ frightened parents paid five hundred thousand naira before the child was released.
“Detectives swiftly coordinated intelligence-led operations, tracing the suspect’s location at Badon hanya behind Zamson filling station which led to his arrest. During the investigation, the suspect confessed to having kidnapped the victim and held him, hostage, to extort money from his parent, while one Tecno android mobile was used in demanding the ransom was recovered from him.”
Rufai said the suspect who has confessed to the crime will be arraigned in court as soon as the investigation is completed.
