Oyo court remands three students for allegedly causing the death of a 16-year-old colleague.

Three pupils were placed under detention on Tuesday by a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Iyaganku, Ibadan, for allegedly causing the death of a 16-year-old student.

The three students at Iseyin College of Health Science and Technology, Shodimu Halima, 18, Agbedun Zainab, 23, and Olaleye Oladunni, 23, are accused of two counts that involve murder and conspiracy.

Their remand at the Agodi Correctional Centre in Ibadan was imposed by Magistrate M. Mudashiru, who rejected their arguments that they were not within her jurisdiction.

According to Mr. Mudashiru, the remand was placed on hold until the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) issued legal counsel.

Femi Oluwadare, the prosecutor, had previously informed the court that the defendants were allegedly involved in a plot to perpetrate the crime with other people who were not in custody.

According to the prosecutor, the defendants allegedly caused the death of one Eniola Ismail, 16, by beating her with fists on July 29 at about 4.00 p.m. at Iseyin, Oyo State.

“The defendants allegedly fought with the deceased on July 29 in school, after which the deceased went home,” he said.

“Getting home, the deceased complained of body pains, only to d!e later.”

Mr Oluwadare said the offences were contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Sections 319 and 324 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000
