Ogunnaike Phillips, 29, is a suspected kidnapper, r@pist, and serial killer who has been taken into custody by Ogun State police.
The 17-year-old victim of sexual assault and murder with a machete at her father’s farm near Mile 6, a neighbourhood just a short distance from Ogun State Television in Abeokuta, was the subject of the suspect’s arrest. She is reportedly a member of the Aye fraternity.
Abiodun Alamutu, the State Commissioner of Police, confirmed Philips’ arrest to reporters. He added that Philips, an Abeokuta resident and native of Ayepe Ijebu, had admitted to k! lling three more minor girls in the same manner and burying their corpses in the bush.
The suspect took the commissioner and his group to the location of his victims’ graves, which was Asero estate in Abeokuta, Itori in Ewekoro, and Mile 6 along Ajebo road in Obafemi Owode local government, on Friday. According to him, Mary Ogunyemi, 23, and Abigail Dina, 22, are the other victims.
The commissioner claimed that the suspect and his accomplice, Danjuma, who is still at large, had a practice of enticing victims to secluded areas, gathering their phones, demanding ransom from relatives, and then killing them.
Speaking to reporters, the suspect said that his accomplice had recruited him for the murder and requested the death punishment.
“I don’t want the government to do anything for me, me and Danjuma and those cultist members, once they catch us, if they want to give us judgment, they should just kill us. Because they are the ones who led me to these stupid things” he said.
Alamutu did, however, voice his displeasure with the rising number of youth crimes and missing persons and gave the assurance that an investigation was in progress to locate and capture the other gang members.
The families of the victims demanded justice for the premature death of their loved ones, and he promised to bring the suspect before the court to face the consequences of his awful deed.
