A 33-year-old woman who was working as a housemaid for less than 24 hours has been arrested by the police for allegedly stealing jewellery valued at over $60,000.

According to police officials, Ms. Alice Udey, who is accused of using many false identities, was arrested on Sunday, October 27, at the Ikoyi Police Station in Lagos in relation to the theft that took place more than a year ago.
Before her arrest, the police carried out an extensive 16-month search that has exposed what authorities suspect is an organised crime ring targeting rich Nigerian households.

According to police, Udey got employment as a domestic worker after the employer recruited her from an agency.

However, she allegedly disappeared the next day along with valuable jewelry belonging to her employer.

The suspect is expected to face charges related to theft while investigation continues.
