On Saturday, demonstrators in front of Abuja’s Moshood Abiola National Stadium were dispersed by security personnel.
On Wednesday, July 31, a high court in Abuja issued an order limiting the demonstrators to the stadium.
Over how they each interpret the directive, the demonstrators and the police have been at odds. The demonstrators insist they must assemble and stage their demonstration in front of the stadium, despite the police’s insistence that they enter the stadium to carry out their protest.
The demonstrators were forced to flee for their lives this afternoon when the security guard, angered by their defiance, opened fire on them with tear gas.
