After confessing to having sex with a 16-year-old pupil while other students acted as her ‘lookouts’, a math teacher in Missouri is probably going to jail, while the boy’s father is still being charged with a felony for allegedly encouraging the inappropriate relationship.
After a student informed a school resource officer about their extramarital relationship, Hailey Clifton-Carmack, 26, was taken into custody in January 2024. She later provided police with a picture of the scratches she had made on her victim’s back.
She entered a guilty plea to the accusation of having sexual contact with a student on Friday, September 6, which carries a four-year prison sentence, as reported by the Daily Mail.
She was able to avoid additional severe accusations such as statutory r@pe, child molestation, and child endangerment thanks to the plea agreement.
According to the site, the teacher will be placed under house arrest until her sentence on October 11.
As the boy’s father, Mark Creighton, is accused of knowing about the affair but choosing not to disclose it, he has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
However, according to Kevin S. Hillman, the county prosecutor in Pulaski County, Missouri, that case will not proceed until after Clifton-Carmack is sentenced.
The shocking case, which started when a student witness revealed the teen’s relationship with the Laquey High School maths teacher in December, has taken a turn for the worst with Clifton-Carmack’s plea. When the two had sex in the witness’s driveway, Clifton-Carmack is said to have mauled the victim, as evidenced by the photo the witness showed police.
The witness further stated that the maths instructor, a divorced mother of two, had previously run afoul of school administration for approaching the pupils too closely.
She also frequently wore skimpy attire, such as tight leggings and low-cut tops. When Clifton-Carmack was apprehended by detectives on December 8, 2023, she denied the relationship.
According to court filings, after seizing her phone, police discovered text messages that revealed the risque relationship.
She left just before Christmas, supposedly to visit relatives in Texas. Her housemates, however, claimed she had relocated permanently and they had no idea if she would return.
She was detained in Comal County, Texas, by the Garden Ridge Police Department in January. She was accused with first-degree endangering the welfare of a child, second-degree statutory r@pe, having sex with a student, and fourth-degree child molestation.
Another witness claimed to have informed the teen’s father about the teacher’s conduct, leading to the arrest of the boy’s father, Creighton, in January on suspicion of endangering the welfare of a child.
The court filings stated that he only stated that he was aware of their sexual involvement. Additionally, he was aware that the teacher and his son frequently used the students as lookouts, especially when they had sex in class.
In addition to “allowing Hailey to come over to his residence and see the victim while he was present,” the man “knew of the relationship of his minor child and the 26-year-old teacher, and instead of reporting the information, he continued to cover for them and allowed the relationship to continue,” according to the prosecution.
It is also said that he told a witness that he would lie for his son if he had to.
