Taylor Swift posted her support after the vice president finished her debate on ABC News, but Donald Trump told Fox News the singer was a “very liberal person” who “seems to always endorse a Democrat
Taylor Swift has said she will vote for Kamala Harris in the US election, prompting a strong response from Donald Trump who claims she’ll “probably pay a price for it”.
The singer’s Instagram post showed her holding her cat Benjamin Button – a reference to Mr Trump’s running mate JD Vance’s “childless cat lady” comments.
Swift urged her 283 million followers to “do your research” – but said AI-generated images of her supporting Mr Trump made her realise “I need to be very transparent about my actual plans”.
“I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election,” she said. “I’m voting for Kamala Harris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them.
“I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.
“I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate Tim Walz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades.”
Trump:Swift will pay the price
Trump said he “was not a Taylor fan” and that “she’ll probably pay a price for it in the marketplace” after dismissing the singer’s support for the Harris campaign.
He stated over the phone with Fox News that it was only a matter of time until she would be able to support Biden. She identifies as liberal. She appears to consistently support Democrats.”
The Harris campaign celebrated the endorsement on X shortly after the debate by displaying friendship bracelets between Harris and Waldz.
With fans trading friendship bracelets among themselves, Swift’s sold-out Eras tour has come to be associated with them.
Making reference to Swift’s popular song lyrics…Are You Prepared? – “Are you ready for it? Ms. Harris’s team posted an image of the bracelets, which are available for purchase on the campaign’s official website.” Friendship bracelets by Harris-Walz are now available in stores.”
Following her article, James Matthews, a US journalist for Sky News, stated that Swift’s support was “huge” for the Harris-Walz campaign.
He remarked, “She is a huge, massive star.” Taylor Swift has a message that will resonate with a vast audience that goes far beyond the people who are watching what has happened here. She talks to people in a way that politicians do not.
“It’s not going to have been a coincidence. Taylor Swift is the main attraction tonight. The conversation of the day will centre on Kamala Harris and Taylor Swift, and the momentum that will accompany her.
Trump is not a Swiftie
Mr Trump also made a comparison between Taylor Swift and Brittany Mahomes – the wife of NFL star Patrick Mahomes – who made headlines last week after liking one of the former president’s social media posts, sparking online criticism.
“I actually like [Brittany] Mahomes better, if you want to know the truth – she’s a big Trump fan,” he said.
This is Swift’s first speech about the 2024 election. The Style hitmaker did support Joe Biden in 2020, but she did so just one month before to the election.
However, Taylor Swift is still subject to the ups and downs of American politics despite her widespread recognition and popularity. She had a decline in her social media following after her tweet.
