Shared is a video that captured the passengers on a tragic boat moments before it sank in Niger State.
On Tuesday, October 1, 2024, following local market day, the boat departed from Mundi Village and transported passengers to Gbajibo village in Mokwa local council of Niger State.
Channels Television posted a footage of people sitting in the packed boat without life jackets.
Shortly after the video was recorded, the boat is reported to have capsized.
About 300 people were on board the locally built wooden boat, which had a 100 person capacity, when it capsized in the rural Mokwa district on Wednesday, October 2, according to an emergency official.
As of Sunday night, a concerted operation by the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), the Niger State National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and local divers had recovered 70 bodies and rescued 150 people.
There is still a hunt going on for the other missing passengers.
